Campeche Island Ecological Reserve

Just a mile away from the main island, lays the smaller island of Campeche. Instated as an ecological reserve, and protected by a local fisherman association, this island offers a wide variety of attractions to the visitor, as a luxurious vegetation, a wide variety of birds, hieroglyphic paintings dating around 2000 years BC, and a beautiful white beach and crystal clear waters.

Trails

The island counts with more than ten hiking trails in a display of beautiful nature and and pieces of human history. Guided day trips are offered by the group that protects the island.

Vegetation

Subtropical vegetation covers the western side of the island, where the rainfall is more abundant. The eastern side, although less exuberant, is still very green.

The Beach

You can have a drink or some food at one of the two charming little bars at the beach, or you may go for a swim -or snorkeling session- in the crystalline waters (... or why not both?).

The Trip

The intrepid Capitan Tini (Paulao) will make sure you enjoy the journey from the moment you board the boat at Barra Da Lagoa pier. He will take you safely to the island in a beautiful journey starting from Barra da Lagoa, and allowing you to see from the ocean the beaches of Barra da Lagoa, Prainha, Galheta, Mole, Joaquina and Campeche. During the trip you will be provided with drinks and delicious local fruit.
