Floripa Centro (Downtown)
With about two hundred and forty thousands inhabitants, the Town of Florianopolis offers all the amenities and infrastructure of a big metropolis but without the chaos that usually comes with it. Florianopolis offers a charming colonial area by the old part of town and a traditional market with lots of colonial architecture. But in contrast, it also has modern developed areas like Beiramar. You can find about any thing you may need here, including a variety of cultural and leisure-oriented activities.
Beiramar
Beiramar is a lively sea-side strip featuring modern construction and many choices of high scale bars and restaurants.

Old Market
The market area is one of the oldest parts of Florianopolis, and most of its architecture is from the 1800. Locals take pride in keeping these buildings restored, thus bringing the visitor back to the past. Within the market you can find goods for sale ranging from wooden bowls to fresh local fish. Often there are live bands performing at the market and many locals hanging around drinking beer and eating shrimp.

Live Music at Bar Velho
It is common to find local performers playing at many of the bars surrounding the old plaza. Bar Casa Velha (old house), located right accross from the Praça 25 de Novembro is one of our favorites.

Praça 25 de Novembre
In the heart of old town and separating the Market from the main cathedral is Praça 25 de Novembre. The park is a good example of how the city cares for its historical patrimony.

Historical Site: Governor's House
One of the oldest buildings in town is the house that used to be the Governor's residence. It has become a museum worth a visit. You can appreciate the high quality of the construction of past days, which makes this house a masterpiece.
