The Pristine South of the Island Sheltered somehow from the mass tourism, the Southern sector of the island is one of the most beautiful and pristine regions of Florianopolis. It is a recommended place if your target is to regain communication with your soul...

Campeche

With miles of sandy beaches, this calm area -rarely crowded- offers the right combination of sun, waves, and company.

Campeche is a long beach with white sand and good waves.

From Campeche beach you can see the Campeche Island.

Morro das Pedras

Beautiful but often the water is quite rough.

Armacao

This beach was once historically important for whale fishing, but no more. Many people still fish here and often at night freeing up the beach during the day for sunbathers, but  the waves can be quite violent here.

ArmaƧao's main beach, by the village.

River on the left, beach on the right.

Waves at the beach south of the Village

Matadeiro

Nice place for a stroll on a 1km sand beach surrounded by lush vegetation.

Pantano do Sul

This beach is home to a strong fishing community and a good place to stop for lunch.

Pantano do Sul by night.

Lagoinha do Leste

This beach is part of an environmental preserve area.

Saquinho

Home to a small beach of 50 meters.

Solidao

This area was very isolated but recently a paved road was constructed to reach the beach by car. A small stream flows from the mountains into the sea at this beach.

Naufragados

Quiet and beautiful beach, away from the bitten path. One of the most pristine places in the island. To get there you have to walk for 3 miles, or hire a local fisherman in Caieira to take you there by boat.

Caieira da Barra do Sul

This is the last beach towards south that can be reached by bus or car. Some how isolated, offering a few options for lodging.

Riberao da Ilha

Probably the community where the Azorean architecture has been better preserved in the island. Remote and tranquil, and at the same time offering many options for lodging and dining. The beach is very pretty, with calm and shallow waters.

Cottages available right by the calm beach.

Down town and its characteristic Azorean architecture.

Tapera

Another quiet beach away from the mass tourism, allowing for a very relaxed get away.
