Florianopolis is connected to the mainland by a bridge which allows easy access to the rest of Brazil and neighboring countries of Uruguay and Argentina. You can enjoy all the pleasures of a subtropical island without being far from the mainland. There are 42 beaches around the island each diverse and unique in it’s own way and all within a short distance from the downtown center.

Florianopolis can feed any sports lover’s dream with its warm weather, fantastic waves, steady, consistent wind, and clear blue waters. Surfing

People

A complex racial mix make people of Florianopolis particularly beautiful!

History

The island of Santa Catarina was formed 20 million years ago and inhabited about 4,500 years ago by the Carijos Indians. The more than 100 rocks marked with strange inscriptions and the 50 sambaquis (shell piles) found around the island are evidence of these inhabitants. Unfortunately, when the European settlers arrived in Santa Catarina in the 16th Century, they caused the demise of the Indian population.

Music

Live music can be heard almost everyday at the Public Market in  downtown Floripa. There are many bars that host local musicians weekends and weeknights.

Arts

Florianopolis has many local artists. Their work is sold throughout the island.

Cooking

The local cuisine is excellent and you can taste it just about anywhere on the island. Don't leave without trying the "Bolinhos de Siri" (crab cakes).

One of the most interesting aspects of life in Floripa is a good compromise between efficiency and a laid-back life style.
